We made it through our biggest snow in three years and will now have to deal with the cold for the remainder of the week.
Our forecast of 6-10 inches was verified for nearly all of the StormTeam4 viewing areas. Reagan National recorded 7.2 inches of snow while Dulles had 5.1 inches and BWI-Marshall had 6.6 inches. The big winners were Prince Frederick, Maryland, with 11.6 inches and Independent Hill, Virginia, which reported 11 inches. Frederick and Washington counties in northern Maryland were on the low end with 4 to 5 inches.
The week ahead promises to be bitter cold all the way to the end. Even with a fair amount of sunshine, high temperatures will stay at or below freezing from Tuesday through Friday.

In addition to the cold will come a biting Northwest wind that will keep wind chills in the 10s during Tuesday afternoon and in the single numbers overnight.

Saturday's snow chances
The next storm to watch will come on Saturday. The storm appears to be on a much more southern track than this last one so unless something changes, snow totals will be lower.
With so much cold air already in place, this next storm should also be an almost all-snow event. How much snow? Well, that's tough to say five days out. The European models are showing 1-3 inches while American models are in the 3-5 inch range.
The timing on both shows the bulk of the snow coming on Saturday morning with a very quick cut-off on Saturday afternoon. Unless this storm track changes dramatically, this will be a much lower impact event.
Though not exactly warm, temperatures should get close to 40° Saturday afternoon with the skies clearing and should get above 40° on both Sunday and Monday. Another shot of cold air will arrive early next week so get used to wearing those heavy coats.
