Storm Team4 Forecast: Enjoy nice weekend weather before a sharp cooldown

Storm Team4 has the weather forecast for D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia

NBC Universal, Inc.

4 things to know about the weather

  1. Friday Sunshine
  2. Really Warm Weekend
  3. So Much Cooler Next Week
  4. Tropics Quiet For Now

High pressure will keep us dry for most of the next week or more while temperatures take a few big swings.

First, the good news. Your Friday afternoon and evening are going to be flawless. Highs this afternoon will get close to 70° under a cloudless sky. Friday night football temperatures will be in the low-60s.

Clear night skies will allow for at least a chance to see the aurora caused by a big storm on the sun. Your best chances will be far away from the city lights.

Saturday morning will start in the 40s for most areas outside the Beltway and closer to 50° in the urban areas. Clouds will increase a bit by late Saturday afternoon but no rain is in the forecast. Highs will be 5-7° above average, climbing well into the 70s.

Sunday will be warmer still with metro D.C. likely to get just above 80°. Sunday afternoon and evening will turn breezy with thickening clouds ahead of a cold front. That front will come through Sunday night and bring a small chance for a passing shower or two between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m.

Chilly temps coming next week

Then, a big drop in temperatures will leave us 10-15° below average for most of next week.

Monday will be the transition day. Gusty Northwest winds will keep Monday afternoon temperatures in the low to mid-60s at best.

That breeze will stay up for Tuesday and Wednesday so highs on those days will stay in the 50s - far more typical for the second week of November than the middle of October.

What was once Hurricane Milton is moving farther out to sea posing no threat to land. There are several tropical waves worth watching, but none of them pose any threat to the U.S. mainland.

We're getting to the time of year when most of our tropical threats come from the Gulf of Mexico (like Milton did) or the Bahamas. Both of those regions look fairly quiet through at least the next five to seven days.
