Storm Team4 Forecast: Drizzle to fizzle out Wednesday with dry weather to follow

Storm Team4 has the weather forecast for D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia

NBC Universal, Inc.

4 things to know about the weather

  1. Another cloudy day
  2. Drying trend ahead
  3. Warmer by week's end
  4. Crisp pattern next week

Wednesday will make nine of the last 10 days with thick cloud cover but there is sunshine on the horizon… eventually.

Typical of the post-tropical air mass we've been in was a wide range of rain totals yesterday. Most of the area, especially west of Dulles Airport, had less than one-tenth of an inch of rain. BWI-Marshall had 0.36 inches but Reagan National had 1.46 inches.

Rain and drizzle will impact the morning commute with temperatures in the low to mid-60s. Drier air will arrive Wednesday afternoon so rain will be less of an issue for the second half of the day.

There may even be a few breaks of sunshine for areas west of Dulles Airport late in the afternoon.

Temperatures will peak around 70° Wednesday. Clouds will thicken again tonight so Thursday morning is likely to be foggy and damp with a few areas of drizzle.

The drier air to the west will allow for a much cooler start. Temperatures will be around 60° in the D.C. metro area but closer to 50° in the Shenandoah Valley. There will be additional clearing on Thursday afternoon so highs will reach the low 70s.

Another weather front will come through on Friday and it could wring out a few showers. The D.C. metro area should stay dry and get some additional sunshine allowing temperatures to climb well into the mid-70s.

High pressure will bring gorgeous weather in for the weekend! Both Saturday and Sunday will be mostly sunny and a bit warmer than average.

Highs on Saturday will be close to 80° and Sunday's highs will be near 75°. A cold front will come through on Monday with a rain chance followed by cool, crisp, dry air for most of next week.
