- Slight warming by Sunday
The holiday weekend may be over but there are still millions of our neighbors making the trip home. Travel along I-95 isn't much of an issue from Boston to the Carolinas.
The weather here in the D.C. area this week will be mid-winter cold and dry.

The cold air that settled in over the weekend will continue to get reinforcing shots that will keep our temperatures 10-15° below average all week.
Even with a fair amount of sunshine Monday and Tuesday, our daytime highs will only reach the low 40s. Steady northwest winds will keep daytime wind chills at or below the 32° line as well so keep your scarves, gloves and hats handy.
The main impact of snowfall will be around the Great Lakes. Chicago, Milwaukee, Detroit, Buffalo and some of Pittsburgh could all have snow-related delays. The inner-mountain West and the West Coast hubs are all getting clear weather Monday and Tuesday.
Everything should be back to normal by Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest.

Overnight lows will drop into the mid-20s each morning. A large storm over the Great Lakes on Thursday will bring us cloudy skies, gusty winds and a chance for a few drops of rain.
Thursday's highs will climb well into the 40s. Strong northwest winds Thursday night will follow the storm so Friday will be sunny, cold and gusty with high only reaching the mid-30s and daytime chills in the mid-20s.
The cold will linger into Saturday with highs just above 40°. Sunday into early next week should finally see a return to average temperatures.
