4 things to know about the weather
- Today is the Autumnal Equinox: 8:43 AM!
- Patchy morning fog today, then mostly cloudy skies, sunshine peeks thru late
- As fall begins, temperatures will be near average throughout
- More clouds, rainy moments plus an unsettled weather pattern for the week ahead
Fall has arrived!
Even though a summer-like line of heavy rain and thunderstorm battered the National Capitol Region during the pre-dawn hours, rainfall amounts from this were across the spectrum, from a trace of rain west of the Beltway to well over an inch in Prince George’s and east across the Chesapeake Bay.
The week ahead will bring more clouds than sunshine with unsettled conditions with rainy moments possible throughout much of the upcoming week.
The Autumn Equinox happens at 8:43 a.m. on Sunday morning. Be prepared for the dwindling daylight hours ahead.
Fall is about to begin!
What to expect this weekend
The rain will be over early Sunday morning, but the clouds are likely to hang around. Fog will hang around the first part of Sunday.
Partly to mostly cloudy skies, but dry conditions, are on tap for Sunday and Monday afternoon, with high temperatures staying in the low to mid-70s.
Rain chances return
It looks like cloudy conditions will stick around for the week.
Rain chances will return again on Tuesday and impact the rest of next week and weekend. Rain totals from Tuesday through Sunday should end up in the 1.5" to 3.0" range. That amount of rain would go a long way to easing the drought conditions, so let's hope it comes to fruition.
There are still signs of a tropical system forming in the Gulf of Mexico in the second half of next week. It's still too early for anything more specific than that, but a storm in the Gulf could certainly help boost our rain chances in the week after next. Stay tuned. Make it a great weekend.
