4 things to know about the weather
- Next cold shot coming
- Rain/snow showers Thursday AM
- Howling wind Thursday into Friday
- 50s return on Sunday
A deepening storm over the Northern Great Lakes Wednesday will be followed by another punch of Arctic air to finish the week. This combination means wind and cold for us over the coming days, so keep your parka close at hand.
Rain and snow showers will move through the region Thursday. We’ll have powerful winds and low windchill temps.

An increasing Southwest wind will help to keep temperatures near 40° Wednesday evening but wind chills will fall to near freezing.
A cold front attached to that storm over the lakes will come through around daybreak Thursday. Cloudy skies and strong wind gusts will make a period of rain and snow showers likely between 4 a.m. and noon. Temperatures will be hovering just a few degrees above freezing.
That's cold enough to see snow but too warm to support any accumulations of more than a quarter of an inch on grassy areas. The bitter cold, dry air will arrive Wednesday afternoon as Northwest winds gust well over 40 mph. A wind advisory may well be issued, especially for the higher elevations.

The wind will calm down by the weekend
Temperatures will fall below freezing, and wind chills will drop into the 10s, as the sun makes an appearance Thursday afternoon. Friday will be bitter cold and windy from start to finish. Daytime highs will stay in the 30s and wind chills will remain in the 20s thanks to wind gusts around 30 mph.
The good news is that the wind will diminish for the weekend. Saturday will still be plenty cold. Temperatures will start in the mid-20s and just barely get above 40° Saturday afternoon.
Sunday will be sunny with highs back above 50°. Rain chances remain in the forecast for the early part of next week.
