4 things to know about the weather
- Cold, gray Friday
- Bitter wind Saturday
- Freezing Sunday afternoon
- Dry through Christmas
These final few days before the holidays will be extra cold. A storm crossing through the Ohio Valley will bring snowy conditions to the Great Lakes, New York and New England today. Thankfully, that will be the last big, impactful weather event for holiday travelers between now and Christmas Day.
That same storm will keep our Friday cloudy and cold, with highs staying close to 40°. Wet snow flurries were spotted in parts of the D.C. region late Friday morning. Flurries fell steadily over Ashburn, Virginia, about 10:45 a.m.

There will be a few periods of light rain and sprinkles during the day. After sunset, some of those sprinkles could change over to snowflakes, but there won't be enough of them to cause any travel issues south of the Maryland-Pennsylvania border.
If you are heading to State College, Pennsylvania, for the Penn State game, there will be 3-5" of snow falling this afternoon, evening and continuing on into tomorrow.

A very cold weekend continues into early next week
Our weekend will be the coldest in 11 months. Saturday will come with filtered sunshine and a gusty Northwest wind. Highs Saturday will stay in the mid-30s but wind chills will remain close to 20°.
Sunday will come with more sun and less wind, but remain even colder. Most areas will stay below freezing on Sunday afternoon.
If you're heading to the Commanders game, layer up. Wind chills will remain around 20°, once again.
The cold will ease slightly into early next week. Monday looks to stay sunny with highs in the mid-30s. Clouds will thicken up from Chirstmas Eve onwards as temperatures return to the 40s each afternoon.
Rain chances will remain low all the way through next Thursday before a milder pattern brings additional moisture in our direction. Temperatures will be trending into the mid-50s by next weekend and continuing into New Year's week with chances for rain just about every day.
