4 things to know about the weather:
- Umbrellas Needed Today
- Weekend Starts, Ends Wet
- Plenty Of Usable Dry Time
- Much Colder Next Week
Even without any sunshine on Thursday, D.C. managed to crack 80° for the fourth time in the last six days with a surge of very humid air coming along with the warmth.
That high humidity is still here this morning, along with numerous showers. Rain chances will remain high through the morning commute.

Showers will become much more widely scattered, leaving most of the window from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. more usable for outdoor activities.
Temperatures will be around 70° for the first half of the day with north winds pushing them into the 60s by the afternoon.
Periods of light rain, sprinkles and drizzle will return late this evening and last into the early parts of Saturday morning with overnight temperatures remaining in the mid-50s.
Major variation in temperatures before weekend ends with rain chances
Both Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon will remain mostly cloudy and are likely to come with very large temperature spreads.
Highs on Saturday are most likely to stay in the 60s on the Maryland side of the Potomac into northern and northeastern Maryland, while the Shenandoah Valley and most of Northern and central Virginia climb well into the 70s.
The cold front we've been watching for the Sunday into Monday time frame will likely arrive early Sunday afternoon. That is about 8-12 hours earlier than the previous forecast and will provide another big temperature challenge.
The D.C. metro and everywhere along the I-95 corridor should be above 70° until early afternoon when the wind shifts to the northwest. Our forecast model has 2 p.m. temperatures on Sunday at 80° in Southern Maryland, 65° in D.C. and 55° in Winchester, Virginia. With a 25° spread across the front, any slight change in timing will lead to a very different outcome in how Sunday "feels" to you.
There's also likely to be a line of showers that comes along with the front on Sunday, so outdoor activities are best done early.
Cooldown and frost/freeze concern next week
Much colder weather is on tap for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. Daytime highs barely reaching 50° and overnight lows way down into the 30s with a frost/freeze threat increasing for Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
