4 things to know about the weather
- Winter storm moves into the region from west to east Sunday
- Wintry mix for areas west of I-81. Snow/sleet/freezing rain will make travel hazardous.
- Cold rain with snow flurries reached the I-95 Corridor by noon.
- Rainy moments will impact the area through mid-week.
A strong complex winter storm system continues to move eastward and has reached far western Maryland.
This system will bring snow/sleet for the higher elevations west of I-81 early Sunday morning, with soaking cold rain and a few snowflakes (mainly from Montgomery County and areas north) reaching the National Capitol Region (NCR) by noon.

High temperatures on Sunday will be below average and remain in the mid-30s gradually rising into the 40s for Monday.
For the week ahead, the NCR will ride the temperatures roller coaster with temps quickly rising and falling as the weather patterns move swiftly from the Mid-West to the East Coast. High temps will range from the 30s to the 60s - then back to the 30s just in time for the weekend.
NOTE: Be careful traveling west from the National Capitol Region Sunday and Monday. The storm is forecasted to bring snow accumulations of 4-6 inches in addition to the wintry mix in the higher elevations along the Allegheny Front.
