4 things to know about the weather:

  1. Near Perfect Wednesday, Thursday
  2. Friday PM showers
  3. Rain, thunder likely Saturday
  4. Gorgeous Sunday, Monday

Our best chances for rain over the next seven days comes in a pretty small window of opportunity.

For better or worse, that window opens on Friday afternoon and closes on Saturday night. The timing isn’t ideal but the northern half of the DMV is still in a severe drought and in desperate need of the moisture.

Rain totals for this event are expected to range between 1/4 of an inch and 1/2 of an inch. Once this storm passes, our next chance for rain won’t come until Thursday of next week.

While we’re waiting for the rain, these next few days are going to be absolutely beautiful. Sunny skies and low humidity during the day and comfortably cool at night. Highs on Wednesday will stay in the mid- to upper 70s.

Temperatures will fall into the low 50s Wednesday night and then return to around 80° Thursday afternoon. Clouds will return on Friday ahead of the rain chance and that will make for a tricky temperature forecast.

Expect rain chances on Friday evening and all day Saturday

The American model brings the thick clouds and rain chances in sooner, by early Friday afternoon, while the European model holds them off until Friday evening. That difference in timing the rain means temperatures will either just reach the low 70s or possibly get above 80°.

Saturday will be an easier forecast, mid- to upper 70s, since it will be cloudy and showery from start to finish. A cold front will come through late Saturday, bringing an end to the rain and clearing the way for sunny weather to return for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

Highs will be in the low 70s on Sunday, the mid-70s Monday and well into the 80s on Tuesday. The odds of D.C. getting to 90° on Wednesday, for the first time this year, are increasing. We’ll keep you posted on all of this over the next few days. Until then, enjoy this sunny, spring weather!
