Storm Team4 Forecast: Expect cool wind as sunny, dry streak begins

Storm Team4 has the weather forecast for D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia

NBC Universal, Inc.

4 things to know about the weather

  1. Early morning raindrops
  2. Sunshine on the way
  3. Cool, dry week ahead
  4. Hurricane Milton Florida bound

A cold front will be passing through the area first thing Monday morning, bringing a line of rain showers along with it.

Don't worry about falling back into the gray and gloomy pattern the area suffered through last week. This will be the last chance for rain for quite some time. And, if there was any doubt about what month or season we've been in, the week ahead will absolutely look and feel like October.

Sunshine will return well before noon Monday and afternoon highs will reach the low 70s with a cool, steady northwest wind. The breeze will die down after sunset.

Clear skies overnight will allow for a very chilly start Tuesday morning with most areas outside the Beltway and away from the Bay to drop into the 40s.

Sunny days and chilly nights will be the forecast for the rest of the week. High temperatures will be around 70° and overnight lows will remain mostly in the 40s. After Monday morning, our next chance for rain looks to be a week, or more, away.

Hurricane Milton strengthens before it hits Florida

Unfortunately for Florida, another hurricane is on the way. Hurricane Milton already has near 100 mph wind at its center and significant strengthening is expected before the storm makes a landfall on Florida's west coast.

Preparations to protect life and property are already underway and some evacuation orders are likely to come later Monday. The impacts from Milton will extend far outward from where the eye comes ashore.

The most likely landfall point at this time appears to be somewhere very close to, or just to the south, of Tampa Bay. Milton will cross the Florida Peninsula bringing hurricane-force winds well inland. Orlando, Gainesville and even the east coast of Florida will be severely impacted with wind and rain.

If you have travel plans to Florida this week, consider changing them now.
