Storm Team4 has the weather forecast for D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia

NBC Universal, Inc.

4 things to know about the weather

  1. Sunny, cooler today
  2. Frost for some tonight
  3. Weekend looks great
  4. Much cooler next week

Our weather will remain mostly dry but come with some big swings in temperatures over the next week.

Sunny skies are on tap for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. A noticeable northwest wind this afternoon will keep temperatures in the low 60s.

Clear skies and lighter winds tonight will make Friday morning quite chilly. There will be a frost concern north and west of Dulles Airport if the wind can go completely calm. Temperatures will drop into the mid-to-upper 30s in the coldest spots but evening the urban areas will likely drop into the low to mid-40s.

Friday afternoon will see highs near 70° and Saturday close to 80°. Sunday will also be nice and warm but the increasing clouds will keep temperatures in the mid-70s.

Our one rain chance will come from late Sunday into Monday and will not be anything more than a few widely scattered showers.

Most of next week will feel more like November than October. Scattered clouds and a steady northwest wind will keep afternoon highs to only around 60° from Monday to Thursday next week.

Hurricane Milton goes off of Florida's east coast

Hurricane Milton came ashore just south of Tampa Bay last night and will move off the east coast of Florida this morning. Good riddance!

Milton weakened from a 165 mph Category 5 to a 120 mph Category 3 in the 12-18 hours before landfall. Even so, it still produced a 10-foot storm surge at the coast and a large outbreak of tornadoes from Fort Myers to Fort Lauderdale with widespread inland flooding.

Sarasota, FL recorded over 5 inches of rain in just one hour. As of 5 a.m., the center of Milton is approaching Cape Canaveral Florida with 75 mph sustained winds with gusts near 100 mph.

Rainfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour will impact Daytona Beach and nearby areas throughout this morning. By the end of the day, the majority of Milton's greatest threats will be offshore and the clean-up process can finally begin.
