Storm Team4 Forecast: Sunshine to break through after morning drizzle clears out

Storm Team4 has the weather forecast for D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia

NBC Universal, Inc.

4 things to know about the weather

  1. Two more gray mornings
  2. Mainly dry pattern returns
  3. Weekend looks great
  4. Cooler, less humid next week

We have been stuck in this gray, gloomy and soggy pattern for nearly two full weeks but the end is in sight.

Rain totals over the next seven to ten days, combined, will be next to nothing. Some drizzle Thursday morning and an isolated shower or two on Friday and Monday are it for rain chances.

So that soaking rains are over, but what about seeing some sunshine? That will be a bit more of a challenge but it's coming.

Thick clouds on Thursday morning will give way to at least some breaks of sunshine in the afternoon. This pattern will be repeated again on Friday.

Afternoon highs will be close to 74° today and then trend above average for Friday and the weekend.

Sunshine will become much more prevalent on Saturday and Sunday looks bright and sunny from sun-up to sundown.

Expect fall-like temperatures next week

A cold front passing through on Monday will bring some added cloud cover back before cool, dry, high pressure from Canada brings us a long stretch of classic October weather for the balance of next week.

Starting Tuesday of next week we will be about 5° cooler than average with daytime highs barely reaching 70° and overnight lows dropping well down into the 40s thanks to a clear sky. Hang on. Better days are coming.

There are two named storms, Kirk and Leslie, in the central Atlantic but neither pose any threat to land. The Gulf of Mexico still needs to be watched, but the odds of a storm developing there look quite a bit lower today than they did yesterday. Let's hope it stays that way.
