Have your heavy coats ready Friday. Temperatures will be cold with highs in the low to mid-40s, and wind chills in the 30s. Winds get stronger this afternoon, gusting around 25 mph.

Precipitation arrives this afternoon. There will likely be a brief period of rain before conditions transition to quick snow showers. This snow event will be low impact, mainly conversational snow. Most areas will see less than half an inch.

Saturday will be mostly sunny and blustery. Winds will flow from the west/northwest at 15 to 20 mph, gusting around 30 mph. Highs will be in the 30s, and windchills will be in the teens and 20s

Sunday is expected to start off cold and quiet. Expect a mostly sunny morning with wind chills in the teens. Clouds will increase during the afternoon.

Snow showers are expected to begin late in the day on Sunday, and snow will continue into Monday. There could be a period of mixed precipitation, including sleet and freezing rain. This wintry mix would lower snow totals, but still could slow travel and cause other issues. Slick or icy roads and sidewalks, reduced visibility are concerns. Wet snow and freezing rain could bring down branches, trees or power lines.

Any wintry precipitation that falls early next week will likely stay frozen, or possibly melt then refreeze, with a very cold week ahead.
