Storm Team4 Forecast: Temps drop below freezing Monday with sleet chances ahead

Storm Team4 has the weather forecast for D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia

NBC Universal, Inc.

4 things to know about the weather

  1. Cold sunshine Monday
  2. Few drops, flakes Tuesday
  3. Limited late-week sunshine
  4. Rain chance this weekend

The week ahead won't be warm but will also not be as cold as the weekend was.

Most areas are in the 10s and 20s Monday morning so the bundle-up factor remains high. Sunny skies Monday afternoon will warm us only into the mid-30s. Clouds will return later Monday night as slightly warmer and more humid air tries to return to the area.

Temperatures will drop below freezing Monday evening and remain that way well past sunrise Tuesday as a storm crosses the Great Lakes and heads into New York.

We will be just close enough to that storm to get a small chance of some light rain, sleet or snow in the first half of Tuesday. Travel issues are unlikely but using some extra caution when traveling Tuesday morning is still a good idea. Temperatures will eventually get back above 40° Tuesday afternoon so the window for any wintry weather is very small.

Wednesday and Thursday will also be mostly cloudy and seasonably cold with highs staying in the low to mid-40s.

Milder temps to come this weekend with rain chances

A milder pattern will start coming our way this weekend. Highs will get back near 50° on Saturday and should be in the mid-50s from Sunday through Wednesday which is New Year's Day.

Rain looks likely on Sunday and then again on New Year's Eve and the first day of 2025.

For all you snow lovers out there, keep hope alive. There are still signs of another cold snap arriving between Jan. 5-7. Let's just hope there's enough moisture for a snow chance that comes along with the cold.
