Storm Team4 forecast: Icy cold temps continue before Saturday snow chance

Storm Team4 has the weather forecast for D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia

NBC Universal, Inc.
  1. Weather Alert: Ice and cold
  2. Bitter winter continues
  3. Saturday AM snow chance
  4. No major storm

Gusty winds and colder-than-average temperatures will continue for several more days ahead of our next "chance" for snow on Saturday morning.

Additional clouds arrived overnight and Wednesday will remain mostly cloudy through sunset. Temperatures and wind chills will be similar to Tuesday but it will feel colder without the sunshine. Highs this afternoon will be near 30° and wind chills will remain in the 10s.

Skies will clear overnight and the wind will ease up just a bit, but be prepared for a bitterly cold start Thursday morning. Sunrise temperatures will be in the mid-10s with wind chills close to 0° in the rural areas.

Sunny skies will return for Thursday but it is still expected to be the coldest day of the week. Northwest winds will frequently gust near 40 mph with daytime highs struggling to reach the mid-to-upper 20s. Definitely a day to limit your time outside.

Saturday's snow chances

The next storm to watch will arrive late Friday night into Saturday morning. Clouds will increase Friday afternoon and the wind will finally die down with highs around 30°. The latest information on the storm track continues to show a track well to our south.

We will be cold enough for any precipitation to be in the form of snow, but with the storm center staying near Wilmington, North Carolina, there won't be enough moisture for any major accumulation of snow.

On Tuesday, the forecast models were showing a range of 2 to 5 inches… and today they are showing 0 to 3 inches. Time will tell, but there are no signs that this next snow chance will come anywhere close to the storm we just had on Monday.

Any snow we get on Saturday morning will be replaced by clearing skies and blustery Northwest winds in the afternoon.

Sunday, Monday and Tuesday will be dry with daytime highs getting to around 40°. That will certainly help to melt away most of the snow.
