Storm Team4 Forecast: Expect steady rain, chilly temps Thursday

Storm Team4 has the weather forecast for D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia

NBC Universal, Inc.

4 things to know about the weather

  1. Rainy afternoon & evening
  2. Drying out Friday
  3. Pretty nice weekend
  4. Concerns in the tropics

For only the second time in the past six weeks, there's rain in the forecast. Better still, Thursday's rain promises to be even more beneficial than the showers we had on Sunday.

Rain will arrive around midday and be fairly steady Thursday evening.

Rain totals for most of the D.C. metro area look to be around half an inch. That's just more than double last Sunday's total. Rain totals will be lower up I-95 to Baltimore, and Philadelphia may not even get a drop from this storm. There will be more rain if you go west out I-66 or south along I-95, where rain totals of an inch or more will be possible. This storm will move through quickly.

Rain will be ending during the Friday morning commute, and the sun will make a return by noon Friday for most of the area. Northwest winds will bring in dry air that will last through the weekend.

Dry weekend in DC while tropical storm threatens Caribbean

Saturday will be sunny and breezy, with highs reaching the low 60s.

Sunday will have less wind but more clouds, with similar temperatures.

Generally, dry and mild weather will be in place for the first half of next week. D.C. might even reach 70 degrees on Monday afternoon.

In the tropics, the Hurricane Center is still anticipating the development of a tropical storm or hurricane over the next 48 hours. In a change from Wednesday, the storm poses a great risk to Central America and less of a threat to reach the Gulf of Mexico. Honduras, Belize and the Yucatan Peninsula are all at the greatest risk from the storm, which will take on the name Sara.
