Storm Team4 Forecast: Rain chances rising in DC area, thunderstorms possible Saturday

Storm Team4 has the weather forecast for D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia

NBC Universal, Inc. Storm Team4 has the weather forecast.

4 things to know about the weather:

  1. Rain Chances Rising
  2. Rain, Some Thunder Tomorrow
  3. Cool, Breezy Sunday
  4. Close to 90° Tuesday, Wednesday

After a nice, dry week, rain chances are rising once again as we head into Friday afternoon and Saturday.

A warm front will move through the area and bring in warmer and much more humid air. Highs this afternoon will be right where they’ve been over the last few days - about 80° - as our skies turn cloudy.

Dry weather will last through noontime, but expect some scattered showers after 3 p.m. Hit-and-miss showers will continue into this evening and overnight.

Expect storms on Saturday, then cooler temps

High humidity and overnight temperatures in the mid-60s will make Saturday morning feel like early summer. Showery weather in the morning will turn into scattered thunderstorms for the afternoon as a cold front passes through the area.

Rain and thunderstorms are most likely about 3-4 p.m. as a front reaches metro D.C. Gusty northwest winds behind the front will turn off the rain and push out the humidity very quickly. The D.C. metro and areas to the north and west should be completely dry by 6 p.m. It will take a bit longer for Annapolis, Southern Maryland and the Northern Neck of Virginia to dry out.

Temperatures will be near 80° until the front passes, then fall into the 50s by 9-10 p.m. and the 40s by Sunday morning.

Sunday afternoon will be completely sunny but much cooler and quite blustery. Highs on Sunday will only get to near 70°.

After another cool start on Monday morning, a big warm-up will take place. Monday’s highs will be in the mid-70s but both Tuesday and Wednesday will be in the mid-80s to near 90°
