Storm Team4 Forecast: Cold, wet Monday before more rain this week

Storm Team4 has the weather forecast for D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia

NBC Universal, Inc. Storm Team4 has the weather forecast.

4 things to know about the weather

  1. An ugly, cold, wet Monday
  2. Briefly milder Tuesday
  3. More rain Wednesday
  4. Another plunge late week

Monday morning's rain caused Berkeley County, West Virginia, schools to close and sparked some delays in Virginia, including for Fauquier and Frederick County (VA) Schools.

Temperatures slowly climbed into the 40s and eventually reached about 50° Monday. As the next wave of low pressure passes through Monday night, southwest winds and more rain are on the way.

The good news is that the breeze will keep temperatures around 50° overnight so there will be no snow or travel concerns for Tuesday morning.

Northwest winds will bring drier air back into the area for Tuesday afternoon and, depending on how soon we can get the sun out, temperatures will get close to 60°.

Rain returns Wednesday with cooler weather this weekend

Better take advantage of that little window of nice weather, because another storm arrives Wednesday. Clouds will return quickly Wednesday morning, and rain will be likely by mid-afternoon, with temperatures in the 50s.

The first of two cold fronts will arrive Thursday, followed by the second on Saturday. Thursday and Friday will see afternoon highs in the low to mid-40s.

Saturday may not reach 40°. Sunday and Monday will barely get into the low 30s. Plenty of cold air but no moisture to work with means no chances for snow ... again. The odds of a White Christmas in the D.C. area are less than 1%.
