Horse racing officials are calling on lawmakers to upgrade the state’s horse racing model. The plan would temporarily relocate Preakness, the second leg of the Triple Crown, from Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore to Laurel Park in Anne Arundel County for two seasons.

Maryland’s storied Triple Crown race, the Preakness Stakes, could be moving to a different track temporarily. Horse racing officials are calling on lawmakers to upgrade the state’s horse racing model, including Pimlico, the home of the Preakness.

The move, which had already been committed to for 2025 because of a $455 million renovation of Belmont Park, is subject to the approval of an oversight board and the New York State Gaming Commission.

Preakness officials say they are considering moving the second Triple Crown race back to four weeks after the Kentucky Derby instead of two weeks later.
