Eighteen months after the Nationals won the 2019 World Series, they finally had the chance to celebrate at the ballpark with their fans.
Tuesday afternoon in front of a limited capacity crowd of 5,000 people, the Nats raised their championship banner to plenty of applause.
The Nationals had to push back Opening Day this season by a few days as a result of an internal COVID-19 outbreak, so fans were forced to wait even longer than a year and a half to finally see the new flag being raised.
The new flag went up in 2020, but of course, last season there were no fans allowed in ballparks across the league. Attendance is still restricted as the country continues to fight against the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but the Nats were finally able to host some fans at least to watch the first game of the season and help celebrate the first title in franchise history.
