Washington puts Love on IR, but his injury isn't season ending originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
Bryce Love is heading to injured reserve, the Washington Football Team announced on Friday.
However, his stint there should only be temporary, with Ron Rivera telling the media on a post-practice Zoom that the running back's injury shouldn't be a season-ending one.
According to the coach, Love's knee — the one that forced him to miss his entire 2019 rookie year — has swollen up lately due to what he's been doing in practice. Therefore, Washington wants to put him on IR for the time being to allow him to rest and wait for the knee to recover.
Love will, at minimum, be sidelined for three weeks. But again, Rivera was confident that he will return to the active roster at some point later on in the schedule.
The ex-college star and former fourth-round selection generated some buzz early on in training camp this summer, as he made his first on-field appearances for the Burgundy and Gold and looked promising, too. These late-August comments from Rivera certainly contributed to the excitement about 23-year-old.
"He's a guy that's multi-dimensional," Rivera said. "At Stanford, he didn't have to do a lot of routes and pass catching, but he's very capable and we're getting to see that. This is a guy that could be an every-down back for you. He's an explosive, dynamic player."
Love has yet to suit up for the offense in 2020, though, and now, that wait will extend for at least a couple more contests. Hopefully, for both he and the franchise, it will eventually be worth it.
