Vegas trades Tuch, victim of ‘The Save’ in 2018 Stanley Cup originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
The Vegas Golden Knights sent shockwaves across the NHL on Thursday morning, acquiring star center Jack Eichel from the Buffalo Sabres in a blockbuster deal that shifts former Capitals center Chandler Stephenson to the second line.

Among the players sent back to Buffalo was 25-year-old left-winger Alex Tuch. He was a member of the inaugural Golden Knights squad that caught the NHL by surprise when it made a run to the Stanley Cup Finals in its first season of existence. However, Vegas’s run was stopped by the Capitals, who won the series in five games.
In Game 2, Tuch had an opportunity to even up the score at three goals apiece with two minutes left to play. An errant puck scooted past Capitals goalie Braden Holtby and center Cody Eakin managed to set up Tuch with a wide-open net. That is, until Holtby dove back across and stopped the puck with the paddle of his stick.

The play would go on to be called, “The Save,” after the 3-2 score held and the Capitals sent the series to Washington at 1-1. Tuch has since gone on to have a respectable career with Vegas, scoring 102 points over the last three seasons.
Tuch has yet to play a game this year after undergoing shoulder surgery in July. Once healthy, the Sabres expect him to be an integral part of their top six moving forward.
