Secret Service went easy on Obama in basketball originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
The Secret Service's duty is to protect the President of the United States, and apparently, that extends to pickup basketball games as well.Β
When Barack Obama was in office and played games with fellow staffers and cabinet members, he would often drive to the basket without much resistance. Former US Attorney General Eric Holder joined Wizards Pregame LiveΒ to give a quick scouting report on No. 44's game and explain howΒ some members of the Secret Service weren't exactly the best rim protectors.Β

"He has a good left hand, can go to his left side," Holder said.Β "If IΒ was [defending] him I would've sat on that left hand to see what kind of right hand he had. He has pretty good range on his jumper. The surprising thing is that when he drove and was surrounded by the secret service, he always got unmolested to the basket. He's got maybe a warped view of how good he was off the dribble."
It's certainly a weird situation for those agents if you think about it, even in a relaxed environment like a basketball game. Still, you've got to at least provide some resistance, right?
It's clear that if Holder was able to defend him at his best, he'd have a decent time handling the former President.Β

"I'm 10 years older than him, and there was no way I was gonna take my 10-years-older body and give him the opportunity to trash talk me. If we met in the day, Eric's prime against Barack's prime, I'm confident I would've done pretty well."
