Scary Situation as Antonio Gibson Exits Washington Game in 1st Quarter

Antonio Gibson exits in 1st quarter with toe injury originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Washington Football rookie running back sensation Antonio Gibson limped off the field early in the first quarter of Monday's game against the Steelers with a toe injury.

The team listed Gibson as doubtful to return and on the Fox broadcast sideline reporter Pam Oliver said there was a "slim chance" the rookie gets back on the field. Gibson was seen being examined by Washington's medical staff in the blue tent on the sideline.

This is a major blow for the Burgundy and Gold as Gibson has been dynamic so far this season for Washington.

Against Dallas on Thanksgiving, Gibson ran for more than 100 yards and three touchdowns. He's scored a touchdown in five straight games and has11 on the season, just two short of the franchise record for a rookie running back.

A third-round pick out of the University of Memphis, Washington head coach Ron Rivera has seen a lot of growth from Gibson so far this year but believes there is plenty more growth ahead.

"He's learning to be the kind of runner we hope he can be for us. And his skill set of catching the ball out of the backfield, we haven't even really gotten to that point yet either," Rivera said last week.
