Ryan Mutombo, son of Hoyas great Dikembe, commits to Georgetown originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
The Hoyas secured themselves the son of a Hall of Famer on Sunday, when Ryan Mutombo announced he would be committing to play for Georgetown after he graduates from high school in 2021.
His father, Dikembe Mutombo, played three seasons at Georgetown before putting together an 18-year NBA career that landed him in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. He played for the Hoyas under the late John Thompson Jr., during the former coach’s run of 25 straight winning seasons.
Ryan is a 6-foot-11 center out of Lovett School in Georgia. He’s a four-star recruit ranked 80th in the country by 247 Sports and 94th on the ESPN 100. Though he was also reportedly interested in Tennessee, his father’s alma mater ultimately won the sweepstakes for Ryan.
Dikembe will be the third former star to play under Thompson that also sent his son to the school, joining Patrick Ewing — Georgetown’s current head coach — and Alonzo Mourning.
