Ryan Kerrigan breaks Dexter Manley's franchise sack record originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
The Washington Football Team has a new franchise all-time sacks leader.
With the score tied at 17 early in the fourth quarter, Washington pass rusher Ryan Kerrigan sacked Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz for his second sack of the afternoon.
The takedown was Kerrigan's 92nd career sack, passing Dexter Manley for Washington's all-time sack record.
Kerrigan, who's spent his entire career in Washington since he was drafted 16th overall in 2011, has been one of the best pass rushers in the NFL since entering the league. His 92 sacks since 2011 are the fourth most in the NFL over that span, trailing only Von Miller, J.J. Watt and Chandler Jones.
No. 91 has also been incredibly durable for Washington. Since 2011, he's played in all but four games for Washington, including a 139-game start streak that ended last season.
In August, Kerrigan admitted that breaking the franchise sack record was a goal he had for 2020. The pass rusher likely would have broken the record last season had he played a full 16 games.
"As far as the sack record, I obviously want it," Kerrigan said. "I want it because that's a step in what I want to accomplish this season."
Coming off a career-low 5.5 sacks in 2019, Kerrigan entered the 2020 season eager to prove he still has plenty left in the tank. Sunday has shown just that.
