Westbrook posts farewell to D.C. after trade to Lakers originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
Russell Westbrook's Wizards career ended Thursday night when he was traded to the Lakers for Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and a first-round pick.
Shortly after, the future Hall of Famer posted a farewell message on social media, thanking Wizards fans and the organization for the one season he spent in D.C.

"Thank you DC!" Westbrook wrote. "You welcomed my family and I with open arms from day one. Everyone from the front office, to the training staff, the coaches, my teammates, and the fans. I’m grateful y’all took a chance on me and supported me every step of the way. I’m blessed to have been a part of such a stand up organization. It didn’t take long to make a home in DC, and I will forever be grateful and appreciative of my experience with the organization. Thank you!"
Westbrook certainly made the most of his lone season as a Wizard. He averaged a triple-double for the fourth time in his career and helped lead Washington to the playoffs for the first time since 2018. They were ultimately bounced in the first round by the Sixers.

Westbrook also made NBA history wearing a Wizards uniform. He secured his 182nd career triple-double before the end of the regular season, breaking Oscar Robertson's all-time record that stood for 47 years.
Along with Kuzma, Harrell and Caldwell-Pope, the Wizards used the 22nd pick in the draft to get Aaron Holiday and the 31st pick from the Pacers, adding to Tommy Sheppard's overall haul for the nine-time All-Star.
