Rui Hachimura Leaves Wizards' Win Over Pistons With Right Ankle Sprain

WASHINGTON -- The Wizards beat the Detroit Pistons at home on Monday night, but saw third-year forward Rui Hachimura leave in the first half with a right ankle sprain.

Hachimura made a 3-pointer from the corner in the second quarter and made contact with Pistons big man Marvin Bagley III on his way down. The play was deemed a Flagrant 1 foul after an official review.

Bagley III closed out too far and did not allow Hachimura area to land safely. It is the type of play the NBA has tried to eradicate in recent years.

Hachimura, 24, stayed in the game to shoot the free throws - one for his shot and one for the flagrant - and then played another 2:26 before exiting the game. He then walked gingerly down the tunnel and into the locker room with a Wizards trainer.

According to head coach Wes Unseld Jr., Hachimura was hopeful to return in the second half before being determined out for the game.

"I think he tried and I think at the half it got a little stiff on him, but I'm hoping it's not anything severe. He was still walking and moving, but it was a pretty good sprain," Unseld Jr. said.

Hachimura left the game with six points in 10 minutes. He is expected to undergo further testing on Tuesday before the Wizards head out for a two-game road trip. They play at the Pacers on Wednesday and then at the Nets on Thursday in a back-to-back set.

After that, it is the All-Star break, so whether he plays in those games or not, Hachimura will have some time to rest up soon. The Wizards certainly need him now with Bradley Beal done for the season and after shipping out four veteran players at the trade deadline. Once Hachimura left, Unseld Jr. relied on a rotation of just eight players against the Pistons.

Hachimura is averaging 8.2 points and 3.4 rebounds in 17.8 minutes through 17 games this season.
