Orioles pick college OF Colton Cowser No. 5 overall in MLB Draft originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
The shortened 2020 season for the Baltimore Orioles saw them finish with a record of 25-35 and the fifth pick in the 2021 MLB Draft.
With yet another high draft selection, the Orioles chose Colton Cowser from Sam Houston State University. The outfielder and third baseman hit .354 / .460 OBP / .608 SLG with 24 home runs and 112 RBI during his three years in college.
Cowser ranked as the 10th overall draft prospect by MLB.com and the No. 11 prospect by Baseball America.
The 21-year-old joins an Orioles system which includes catcher Adley Rutschman, who they selected No. 1 overall in 2019, and outfielder Heston Kjerstad at No. 2 last year.
After years of having a weak farm system, the Orioles now have a top-five pipeline in baseball with Cowser being the latest to a rapidly improving minor-league system.
