Luis García continues to set minor league baseball ablaze. On Monday, the Nationals announced García was named Triple-A East Player of the Week as the infielder hit .407, including this bomb against Worcester:

García, just 21, has appeared in nine games for Washington this season, hitting .167 with two hits and two runs. He was optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Memorial Day as a corresponding move to Victor Robles’ reinstatement from the 10-day injured list.

Rochester went 4-2 in their six-game series at Worcester last week, in part thanks to García’s heroics. The New York City native has had stellar numbers thus far this season in Rochester, hitting .267 with 14 runs, 16 RBIs and an .875 OPS in 23 games.

Davey Martinez has shifted his infield around several times this season, often making adjustments based off hitting hot streaks. It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Nationals decide to suit up García for a few more games as the campaign continues. Washington is tied with Miami for last place in the NL East. The Nats look to improve upon their 24-32 record with upcoming home series against the San Francisco Giants, Pittsburgh Pirates and NL East rival New York Mets.
