On this day 25 years ago, Cal Ripken Jr. broke Lou Gehrig’s major league record for consecutive games played. To commemorate the milestone, the Orioles invited the Iron Man to throw the ceremonial first pitch to his son, Ryan, who is a player in the organization.
Celebration of Ripken Jr.'s streak weren't exclusive to Baltimore, as Major League Baseball recognized the historic day on social media:
