Schwarber gets tribute video, ovation in return to Nats Park originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
After arriving from the Chicago Cubs, Kyle Schwarber spent half of the 2021 MLB season with the Washington Nationals. In his short tenure, the 28-year-old captivated fans with a historic home run surge.
Nonetheless, as the team fell down the standings, general manager Mike Rizzo decided it was best to head into a rebuild and sell off veterans for young talent. Schwarber would land with the Boston Red Sox for pitching prospect Aldo Ramirez.
As the season comes to an end, the Red Sox are in Washington for a three-game set, and on his first at-bat in Nationals Park, the team decided to give Schwarber a warm welcome with a standing ovation and video tribute.
"It was definitely quick, but very thankful for my time here," Schwarber said on his time in Washington, via MLB.com's Jessica Camerato. "I definitely tried to make roots here. I wanted to get involved in the community. I wanted to try to help bring a championship here. I wanted to be myself -- and that's me playing hard."
