Kuzma bought his mother, grandmother new homes in Michigan originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma has vocalized his love for his family several times before. This week, he revealed an interesting nugget that serves to exemplify just how much of a family man he truly is.
Speaking with NBCSW’s Chris Miller, Kuzma detailed a special gift he gave his mother and grandmother in his home state of Michigan.

“Bought a huge spot, five acres of land in Michigan, that’s a lot. Out in the country, it’s perfect,” Kuzma said of the property he purchased for his mother, Karri. “I’m building my grandmother a house on the acres, too. That’s gonna take some time, but it’s just real special for my family—a place that, when I go back home, I can stay. There’s a pool, dogs can run around, mom’s happy. That’s what it’s about.”
Kuzma went into a bit of detail about how, when he was in his first few years in the NBA, he didn’t have nearly as much money as he does now and thus this project had to wait until he signed his current three-year, $39 million deal. Don’t get him wrong, he had a lot of money, but not enough to pursue a multi-acre home for his family.
Kuzma rented nice condos for his mom during his early years on the Lakers to get her “out of the places we used to live in.” Once he got his big contract, securing a new place for his family was his first priority.
“We were kinda in the process of trying to figure out, ‘Okay, where do you want to live? I got the capital to do it now, so let’s figure it out’…She was real picky. Beggars can’t be choosers, I mean it’s crazy. She wanted a pool and she wanted space, and that’s what we got,” Kuzma said with a smile.
Washington’s forward and leading rebounder has spoken on his unbreakable relationship with his mother before. Kuzma drained a game-winning three-pointer in Detroit back in December in what was a homecoming game for him, as the city is just 70 miles from his hometown of Flint, Michigan.
“Coming home, growing up a Pistons fan and hitting a game-winner on the floor, with my mom there, that's like a full-circle moment," Kuzma said of the moment.
But, even though Kuzma might live almost 600 miles from home now as a member of the Wizards, the connection between himself and his family has not strained. Rather, it gets stronger.
“[My mom is my] biggest supporter. She texts me after, before every game,” Kuzma said. “She’s my number one fan. If you ever see her on Twitter, she’s nuts. She’s just a great person. She’s always helped me throughout the year, always been my number one supporter when no one really believed me or when no one believed I could get to this level.”
