Samsonov exits game early after accidental hit from Oshie originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
Ilya Samsonov came out of Tuesday's game against the New York Islanders just 30 seconds in after an accidental run-in from teammate T.J. Oshie.
Oshie made contact with Samsonov as the netminder went behind the net to collect the puck. As Samsonov hit the puck around the boards, his head stuck out away from the rest of his body and took the brunt of the contact from a wheeling Oshie. Samsonov quickly dropped to the ice after the hit and was eventually helped up by head trainer Jason Serbus. After a short conversation, Samsonov came off the ice under his own power. Goalie Vitek Vanecek came on in relief.

The departure of Samsonov does not necessarily mean his night is done. If cleared by Serbus, he could potentially return later on, but that, of course, will be dependent on his health.
After missing a month with coronavirus, Samsonov has really come on strong with a .918 save percentage, 2.15 GAA and one shutout. For the season, he has a record of 8-1-1.
