How to Watch Washington Capitals Vs. Edmonton Oilers

How to watch Capitals vs. Oilers originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

In one of the most electric games of the Washington Capitals' 2021-22 campaign, the Caps stomped into Pittsburgh and snagged a 4-3 overtime win. It was the team's first regular season dub in the Steel City in overtime since 2011.

Ilya Samsonov stepped in for Vitek Vanecek after the latter suffered a nasty collision in the first period. Samsonov went on to make 43 dazzling saves and lift Washington to the OT win, thanks also to a two-goal night from Dmitry Orlov.

Though the Caps are riding high into February with two straight wins, a very talented opponent stands in their way of No. 3: the Edmonton Oilers. Edmonton sits at sixth place in the Pacific Division, they pack one of the best one-two punches in hockey with their two former MVPs, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.

CAPITALS VS. OILERS WHAT TO WATCH

From NBC Sports Washington's Andrew Gillis:

"Orlov's overtime winner couldn't have come at a better time or in a better game. His tally gave the Capitals another win in overtime (they are now 3-7 in three-on-three this season) in a game where the Penguins felt to be a bounce or two from breaking the game open. The shot into the top left corner of the net gave Orlov his second goal of the night..." Read more

Also from NBC Sports Washington's Andrew Gillis:

"In what was undoubtedly the best performance of [Samsonov's] season, and perhaps his career, he faced the second-most shots he’d faced in his career. That other night was in a 46-save performance in a loss to the Florida Panthers this season. But aside from the three shutouts he’s put up this season, of which he faced 34, 22 and 16 shots total in each contest, there likely wasn’t a game the Capitals needed him more this season. Samsonov kept the Capitals in the game with a mix of timely and outstanding saves, notably one on Sidney Crosby in overtime, to keep the score tied..." Read more

CAPITALS VS. OILERS PLAYERS TO WATCH

Dmitry Orlov, D, Capitals (7 goals, 15 assists in 42 games): Orlov saved his best game of the season for Washington for a big bout in the Steel City. Two goals (including the overtime GWG) elevated the defenseman to being the Caps' fifth-highest scorer on the year. He'll have his hands full with McDavid and Draisaitl, so keep an eye on him in the D-zone on Wednesday.

Leon Draisaitl, C, Oilers (31 goals, 30 assists in 41 games): Draisaitl is easily one of the NHL's three best players. He's Edmonton's leading scorer and the second-leading scorer in the league with 61 points, so he'll be a point of focus for Washington. Draisaitl is riding high with seven points in his last five games.
