How to watch Capitals vs. Flames originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
When the Washington Capitals venture up north to take on the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night, it won’t only be significant for the playoff push. Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom will take the ice together for the 1,000th time as Capitals teammates.
With the Ovi-Backy milestone, NBC Sports Washington will be hosting a special one-hour edition of Caps Pregame Live leading up to puck drop at 9 p.m. As part of the extended coverage, the one-hour pregame show, beginning at 8 p.m., will feature an exclusive sitdown between Ovechkin, Backstrom and Al Koken. Capitals teammates will also chime in on what it means to have played with one of the best tandems in NHL history.

Also during Caps Pregame Live will be a roundtable discussion with Joe Beninati, Craig Laughlin, Alan May and Al Koken as they revisit the best Ovechkin-Backstrom moments on their journey to 1,000 games together. In addition, former Vancouver Canucks brother duo Henrik and Daniel Sedin will discuss what it was like playing against the Caps’ tandem and alongside Nicklas Backstrom on the Swedish national team.

Capitals forward Carl Hagelin underwent surgery on his left eye Tuesday for what general manager Brian MacLellan described as a "serious eye injury." The injury happened at practice earlier that day when a stick caught him in the eye and he had to be helped off the ice. MacLellan said Wednesday that the next steps were still to be determined, but the team announced Sunday that Hagelin would be out indefinitely. CAPITALS VS. FLAMES PLAYERS TO WATCH
Capitals: Alex Ovechkin, LW (55 games, 34 goals, 34 assists): Washington's captain will hit the ice for the thousandth time alongside his trusty compadre Nicklas Backstrom. Ovechkin has notched six points in his last five games and could continue his torrid streak vs. Calgary, especially if Backstrom is able to find him in his office on the power play.
Maple Leafs: Johnny Gaudreau, LW (54 games, 22 goals, 49 assists): 'Johnny Hockey,' as he's called, is one of the NHL's premier stars as he clocks in at fourth in the league with 71 points on the campaign. Washington's defensive pairings will need to pay special mind to Gaudreau, especially considering he's put up seven points in his last four contests.
