The New York Yankees ace, after striking out the side in the first inning of his start against the Texas Rangers on Monday, recorded his 59th strikeout since he last walked a batter. That' s the most strikeouts between walks in MLB history, breaking the previous record which was set just four days prior on May 13 by Corbin Burnes of the Milwaukee Brewers.
Cole struck out three more batters before having his consecutive strikeout streak snapped at 62 when he walked Joey Gallo with two outs in the bottom of the third inning. The last walk that Cole issued prior to that was to Toronto's Lourdes Gurriel Jr. on April 12. Cole tossed 42 innings -- including five full starts -- without allowed a free pass.

Cole, who entered Monday's game with a 5-1 record and 1.37 ERA, has allowed just four walks in over 50 innings pitched this season. After allowing home runs to Adolis Garcia and Willie Calhoun on Monday, the 30-year-old pitcher has actually given up more home runs (5) than walks this season.
