Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs Praises Cam Sims After Incredible Touchdown Grab

Trevon Diggs praises Cam Sims after incredible TD grab originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

The breakout season for Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs continued on Sunday, as he held Washington star Terry McLaurin without a catch before the wideout exited early with a concussion.

But, on one play during Dallas' 27-20 Week 14 victory over Washington, a different receiver got the better of the Cowboys' standout defensive back.

With Washington trailing 24-0 midway through the third quarter, Taylor Heinicke rolled out to his left and connected with Cam Sims on a 43-yard touchdown. The grab by Sims was ridiculously impressive, as he outjumped Diggs and hung onto the football as his back slammed into the grass.

Minutes later, NFL cameras captured Diggs going over to Sims and giving him a knucklebump, showing respect for the incredible grab he just made.

After the game, Diggs shared the video on his official Twitter account, tagging Sims and telling him "great catch."

As Diggs mentioned in his tweet, both he and Sims are products of the University of Alabama. The two were teammates for two seasons from 2016-17 before Sims graduated and then signed with Washington as an undrafted free agent in the spring of 2018.

In fact, Diggs was originally recruited as a wideout to Alabama and spent his freshman season playing the position, so he and Sims spent plenty of time together during practice and meetings that fall.

Sims would respond to Diggs' tweet as well, showing mutual respect between the two former teammates.

Sunday's game against Dallas was by far Sims' best performance of the season. The fourth-year veteran hauled in three passes for a team-high 61 yards and made one of the most impressive touchdown catches by a Washington wideout this year. And, with McLaurin forced to leave the game early, Sims played a season-high 40 offensive snaps, double his previous high on the year.

Washington head coach Ron Rivera was asked on Monday if Sims deserved more playing time moving forward and gave a positive review of his wideout in response.

"He's done some good things. You see him constantly working in practice, doing the things that you need him to do to show you what he can do," Rivera said. "And then as he makes more plays, he's a guy that does deserve to be out there a little bit more.”
