Capitals Defenseman Brenden Dillon Marries Longtime Girlfriend

A match made in hockey heaven: Capitals' Dillon gets married originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Brenden Dillon married his longtime girlfriend, Emma Wittchow, in a small ceremony in their offseason hometown of Vancouver over the weekend.

The couple got engaged last year and originally planned their wedding for Aug. 1. That plan was derailed by the pandemic, since the Caps entered the NHL bubble in Toronto on July 26. They’re still planning on having a big wedding in the future, but they eloped so they could “start our lives as husband and wife.”

Emma Dillon posted on Instagram about her elopement.

It’s a fitting match. Both Dillon and his wife as well as his new brother-in-law all play, or played, hockey.

Wittchow played hockey in high school and then played defense for Minnesota State University’s NCAA women’s team from 2014-2018. She started dating Dillon while she was still at Minnesota.

Her older brother, Eddie Wittchow, is a defenseman for the Hershey Bears. He came up from the Caps’ ECHL affiliate, the South Carolina Stingrays, last season and the Bears re-signed him to a one-year AHL contract in August. He also proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Keely Hoeve, in July.

The Capitals acquired Dillon at the NHL trade deadline in February from the San Jose Sharks. He played for the Sharks for almost six years after he was traded from the Dallas Stars.

After playing 18 games with the Caps through the end of last season and the playoffs and averaging around 20 minutes of ice time per game, Dillon signed a four-year, $15.6 million contract extension last month.
