Bradley Beal is continuing to hold a commanding lead among Eastern Conference guards in NBA All-Star fan voting, as the second round of results were released on Thursday and showed him more than 400,000 votes ahead of second-place Kyrie Irving.
The first round had Beal up by roughly 180,000. He more than doubled that margin, topping out at 2,528,710 total votes.
Fans comprise half of all votes for which players start in the annual All-Star game. The other half is split between members of the media and other players. If a player wins the fan vote, their chances of starting in the showcase are very high.
The Wizards' last All-Star starter was John Wall in 2015. Beal has traditionally not done well in All-Star fan voting, as he was ninth among East guards at this point in each of the past two seasons despite ranking near the top of the league in scoring.
This season, he leads all NBA players with 32.8 points per game. He's also averaging 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists.
Beal, 27, has been an All-Star twice before, but has never started in the game. This year's All-Star game is set for March 7 in Atlanta.
