Alex Ovechkin takes in Penguins vs. Canadiens during Capitals' off night

The Capitals had an off day Saturday ahead fo their first Round Robin game against the Lightning Monday, so Alex Ovechkin and his teammates decided to do a little scouting.

Ovechkin watched two of the Caps' Eastern conference rivals, the Penguins and Canadiens, face off in Game 1 of the NHL's qualifying round.

The 12th-seeded Canadiens beat Pittsburgh 3-2 in a best-of-five series. Since the NHL will reseed the playoffs, after each round, the Capitals' first-round opponent isn't set in stone between two teams. So it's smart for them to keep an eye on as many teams as they can, especially a Penguins team that has knocked them out of the playoffs twice in the last four years.

This is the reality of a bubble format. With no fans in the stands and most of the league all in one place, players have become the primary spectators. It should make for some more memorable moments over the next few months as the playoffs wage on.

The Capitals and Lightning are set to play each other in Round Robin play Monday at 4 p.m. ET.
