McIlroy won his first Masters Tournament, defeating Justin Rose in a thrilling sudden-death playoff, to become a rare golfer to complete the career grand slam with victories in all four major tournaments.

The 35-year-old from Ireland already had victories in the U.S. Open, PGA Championship and the Open Championship, also known as the British Open.
He needed a victory in what was his 17th Masters start to join one of golf’s most exclusive clubs — having previously attempted to complete the grand slam at Augusta on 11 occasions, and coming agonizingly close multiple times.

McIlroy became the sixth golfer to complete the career grand slam:
- Gene Sarazen - U.S. Open (1922), PGA Championship (1922), The Open Championship (1932), Masters (1935)
- Ben Hogan - PGA Championship (1946), U.S. Open (1948), Masters (1951), The Open Championship (1953)

Who will be next golfer to win the grand slam?
McIlroy became the first golfer in 25 years to win the grand slam. Who might be next to join the club? Two golfers are just one win away, and others are halfway there and still in the prime of their careers.
Jordan Spieth - Spieth will get his shot to become the seventh member of the club next month at the PGA Championship. The 31-year-old won the Masters and U.S. Open in 2015 and The Open Championship in 2017.
Phil Mickelson - Mickelson is just one victory away from becoming a grand slam inductee, needing a win at the U.S. Open, where he has been runner-up a record six times. Mickelson, 54, won three Masters (2004, 2006, 2010), two PGA Championships (2005, 2021) and one Open Championship (2013).
Xander Schauffele - Schauffele, 31, won his first two majors last year with victories at the PGA Championship and Open Championship.
Collin Morikawa - Morikawa, 28, won the 2020 PGA Championship and the 2021 Open Championship while making his debut in each tournament.
Brooks Koepka - Koepka has won five majors, but they've come in two tournaments. The 34-year-old has won three PGA Championships (2018, 2019, 2023) and two U.S. Opens (2017, 2018). He has been Masters runner-up on two occasions, losing in 2019 to Tiger Woods and in 2023 to Jon Rahm.
Jon Rahm - Rahm won the 2021 U.S. Open and the 2023 Masters, but he has struggled in the five major tournaments he's played in since leaving the PGA Tour for LIV Golf in 2023.
Scottie Scheffler - Scheffler has victories in just one of the four majors, with Masters wins in 2022 and 2024. But he's the top-ranked golfer in the world, and he's just 28 years old.
Has anyone ever won all four majors in the same year?
No golfer has ever won the calendar grand slam. Tiger Woods and Ben Hogan came closest by winning three of the four majors in a given year.
Woods, in 2000, finished fifth in the Masters before winning the U.S. Open in June, The Open Championship in July and the PGA Championship in August. Woods is the only player in history to complete what is now called the “Tiger Slam,” by winning four consecutive majors but not within the same calendar year. He did so from the 2000 U.S. Open to the 2001 Masters.
Hogan won the Masters and U.S. Open in 1953, but he did not compete in the PGA due to scheduling before winning The Open a week later. So while Hogan technically didn’t lose a major in 1953, he did not complete the calendar grand slam.
Who has the most majors in golf?
Jack Nicklaus has won the most major tournaments with 18 victories. He's followed by Tiger Woods, who has won 15.
How old is Rory McIlory?
McIlroy is 35 years old. He was born on May 4, 1989.
Tiger Woods was the youngest golfer to win golf’s career grand slam at 24 years old in 2000.
How many majors has Rory McIlroy won?
McIlroy's victory at the 2025 Masters was his fifth career major win. He previously won the 2011 U.S. Open, the 2012 and 2014 PGA Championship and the 2014 British Open.
