Cerrato Shows Up for His Radio Show, Blames Season on Pete Kendall was originally published on City Desk on Dec. 22, 2008, at 11:45 am
Vinny Cerrato and the Boomtown Rats don’t like Mondays.
At least, Cerrato’s been AWOL from his radio show on Dan Snyder’s radio station, WTEM, on mornings after recent games, as the Redskins fell from overachieving underdogs to just plain dogs.
But the Skins won yesterday, and Cerrato was back as host this morning.
The Redskins’ chronically maligned personnel chief even let listeners on the air, though the number of positive calls made it seem like the WTEM phone bank had more screening than a malaria tent. (One wiseacre did get through by buttering up Cerrato and the team before yelling, “You’re a moron!”)
So while his team was officially eliminated from playoff contention yesterday, Cerrato got drunk on the positivity. He actually played a misguided game of “What if?” when a fan wondered aloud why the season turned out so disappointingly.
“If Pete Kendall just doesn’t catch that ball against St. Louis,” Cerrato said.

Good god!
Cerrato was referring to a play against the Rams when Kendall, an offensive lineman, caught a batted pass and then fumbled it. St. Louis picked up the loose ball and ran it in for a touchdown.
Sure, that was a huge play in that one game.
But to cite Kendall’s aggressive miscue so publicly all these weeks later, after all the more revealing psychic crap that’s gone down lately over at the dysfunction junction that is Redskins Park — Santana: what the hell? — is just plain dumb.
And it provides more proof why a guy in Cerrato’s job shouldn’t have a radio show.
