Behind Enemy Lines: San Francisco Edition

We all know what the D.C. media says about the Redskins, but what’s going on behind enemy lines? During the season, we’re going to head over to the opposing side and look in on the game chatter in preparation for that week’s match up.

This week we’re checking out what the 49ers and the San Francisco media are saying about the Redskins.

The media says…

“The 49ers should be able to stop the Redskins running game, which ranks 26th in the NFL and averages 3.9 yards per carry. With the Redskins question marks on the offensive line and at the quarterback position, the front seven should have a field day.” – Niners Nation stating the obvious – the Redskins are a bit of a mess.

“The 49ers’ top-ranked run defense hasn’t allowed an opposing back to rush for 100 yards or more in 29 straight games; the Redskins, with starting running back Tim Hightower injured, will rely on Ryan Torain, who rushed for just 14 yards on eight carries last week in a 23-0 loss to the Bills.” – NBC Bay Area on one of the many reasons that the Redskins might not win this one.

The team says…

“When you really look at them, their run defense is very strong at times. It all depends how they want to play the game. If they want to load the box, the run defense is pretty good. If they don’t, it’s not as good. It’s just like most teams. It’s a cat and mouse game there. I don’t believe that you can look at it specifically in those terms.” – 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman, who may be giving Washington a little too much credit.

“I’m so happy with these surroundings, Washington is not even on my mind.” – Carlos Rogers on being happier in San Francisco than he was in D.C.

“First time playing back at home since I’ve been in the NFL. So I look forward to the game, I look forward to seeing my family, and I also look forward to coming out with a victory. I know the Redskins have a pretty good squad over there. Definitely can’t go to sleep on those guys because this is the NFL. Each week is different.” – Vernon Davis on his big homecoming.

Looks like Mr. Homecoming is having a party. With T-shirts and everything!
