Shark-Eat-Shark: Scientists Share Terrifying Photo

Shark cannibalism? A bizarre photo from University of Delaware oceanography researchers sure looks like it, and manages the unlikely feat of making sharks look even more frightening than they already are. The researchers were recapturing sand tiger sharks in the Delaware Bay this month, in efforts to track sharks' movements by satellite, when they found something unusual inside one: another shark. A big sand tiger shark had swallowed whole a much smaller shark, called a smooth dogfish, the scientists said. Sand tiger sharks are also known as ragged-tooth sharks for their three rows of protruding teeth, which they use to spear their prey, most often lobsters, rays, squid and small fish.
