Two Republican senators widely considered to be high on the list of possible Mitt Romney running mates echoed Romney's criticism of President Obama's economic record at separate events Thursday. Marco Rubio, who was stumping for Senate candidate George Allen in Virginia, said that Obama's regular reference to the $1 trillion debt he inherited from President Bush is akin to a relief pitcher blaming his poor performance on the poorly performing pitcher that preceded him. "That's ridiculous, right?" he asked. "That's the same thing that's happening here. Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio delivered a similar message at an event in Washington. "The president gave us a glimpse into the failed philosophy that he has chosen last week when he proclaimed that the private sector was doing just fine," he said. "He needs to get out more." Neither candidate has indicated he is interested in joining Romney's ticket.
