Imam Dies in Belgian Mosque Firebombing

An imam died of smoke inhalation Monday evening in the Belgian capital of Brussels after an unidentified man tossed a firebomb through the window of a Shiite mosque, a Belgian newspaper reported. The mosque was nearly completely burned to the ground in the attack, according to the Agence France-Presse. BBC reported that worshipers were preparing to pray when the firebomber, whom police now have in custody, entered with a bag of fuel in tow. Although firefighters attempted to revive the imam, he died on site amid a crowd of roughly 50 people, NBC News reported. He was 46.
