1 dead and 16 injured at Tuskegee University homecoming weekend shooting

An 18-year-old "non-university individual" was killed and students were injured in the early Sunday morning shooting, according to the university

One person is dead and at least 16 were injured after a homecoming weekend shooting at Tuskegee University in Alabama early Sunday morning, NBC News reports.

In a statement, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) said special agents were notified about multiple people shot on the universityโ€™s campus at around 1:40 a.m., and that theyโ€™re still in the process of gathering information on the events that led to the shooting

An 18-year-old was pronounced dead on the scene, the agency said. Tuskegee university identified the victim as "a non-university individual" in a statement.

A total of 16 people were injured in the incident, including 12 who were shot and taken to local hospitals for treatment.

"Four other individuals sustained injuries that were not related to gunfire over the course of the incident," ALEA said.

No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting at this time. Tuskegee University cancelled all classes scheduled for Monday.

ALEA is asking anyone with information to get in touch with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which is investigating the the incident.
