Woodrow Wilson Bridge Trails Closes for Two Weeks

Bicyclists, runners, walkers: listen up!

Beginning Monday, routine bridge inspections will keep the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Trail closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday for up to two weeks.

The trail is longer than a mile and allows bicyclists, runners and walkers to travel between Alexandria, Va., and Prince George’s County, Md.

It is a wonderful way to cross the Potomac River. It isn’t one of the most famous of the many trails in the area -- more like a best-kept secret. It features informational displays that give details of the area’s history. Telescopes provide travelers with stunning panoramic views of the National Harbor, Old Town Alexandria and D.C.

The Woodrow Wilson Bridge Trail just opened last year. Its "newness" is perhaps why it isn’t widely known among trailblazers.  The path is an expansive 12 feet wide. A  five-foot tall barrier keeps trailgoers safe from vehicular traffic on the Capitol Beltway.

If your interest is peaked, this trail could be one to explore – just check remember the closure times before you run out.
